Reading

Sadly this is an area little covered by most authors and hence there is less reading than normal this lesson.

In Ruarik Grimnisson's Rune Rede, read the whole of Chapter 11, "Preparation for Casting", pages 201 - 203.

In the lesson we took a rather detached, perhaps even a little cynical view of the whole issue of preparation. As a leading Asatru priest, Grimnisson's outlook is quite different. For him the ritual of preparation is a spiritual experience. There is a significant spiritual dimension to the runes, however as we have discussed before each person must find their own way with them and not all readers will necessarily worship the Norse gods, though they should show them appropriate respect.

Further Exercises

  1. Plan how you would conduct a rune reading session with a client. Choose a location for the reading, maybe your home or perhaps the client, or perhaps you would like somewhere completely different? On what surface will you place the runes? Do you have a rune cloth. If not, maybe you would like to design one for yourself. Think about any props which you may require or any other ritual elements to the reading.

  2. Having learned the process of interpretation in the previous two lectures, this is a skill which you need to practice. Using the Lessons page of the Rune School website, practice two more interpretations of three-rune spreads with the help of the Rune Reading Simulator.
