Lesson 17 - Answers Tests and Reading
Comprehension Test
What addition information does Othila (Ethel) offer when found beside Fehu (Feoh) ? It suggests that any money received will be from a bequest/inheritance
What are the four elements? Earth, Air, Fire, Water
How many runes are capable of 180 degree rotation? 16
If runes can be shown to operate according to a simple formula, what does it mean for us as readers? It would take the pressure off us, no need to hone our skills and practice. Rune reading would become just a process of counting numbers
Suggest a meaning for Tiwaz (Tir) when performing the representative function a male authority figure or someone linked to justice such as a cop or lawyer
What might the effect be of one Air and two Water runes? The Water runes would be more significant in the spread (if you apply this method of interpretation)
Name two runes to which particular significant might be paid when they occur in a spread? Chose two from Fehu (Feoh), Ansuz (Os), Thurisaz (Thorn), Hagalaz (Haegl), Tiwaz (Tir) and Mannaz (Man). Again not everyone applies this method of interpretation though. It is for you to decide if you use it.
In most readings where there is interaction between two adjacent runes, what role does the second rune play? It will reinforce or clarify the meaning of the first
If rune reversal does not change the meaning, what does it change? The emphasis changes
Why do we not often see two adjacent runes with an identical meaning? Because this can only happen with certain runes and only where the spread itself can support it.
Further Exercises
There are lots of possibilities here. You could have chosen gender, which Aett the runes are from, deity they are linked with etc. All of these might make for interesting interpretations
Reading
You have completed this exercise. If you got any of the comprehension answers wrong go back and look at the lesson again to work out why this happened before moving on and do not take more than one Lesson a week.
