Reading
Interestingly ethics is not an issue particularly well addressed by most authors on the runes. However Aswynn is an exception. In her book Principles of Runes, read the short section "Professional Ethics", p 73 - 74
Though the lecture was drawn up independently, you will notice there is considerable commonality between the two. She makes a good point about "needy" clients who as much require support and counseling as they do any divinatory revelation. Any rune or Tarot reader will be able to tell a similar tale about such people and it is something you should be prepared for.
Further Exercises
In terms of the standards which this lesson has sought to instill, what is the problem with this reading?
This rune, Fehu (Feoh) indicates success and financial security. Its appearance in this spread is an indication of money moving towards you, which this second rune here suggests will be from a bequest. Now is a time for family solidarity, to pay heed to your roots and your heritage ..
-
A new telephone service launches offering rune readings by phone using premium rate numbers. The clients pay, and the readers are paid, by the minute. Suggest two ethical issues or dilemmas which this arrangement could give rise to for the reader.
-
A reading indicates that the client may be about to receive a serious injury though the presence of Jera (Ger) in an adjacent position could suggest this bitter harvest is the price they must pay for past deeds.
- Do you warn the client?
- If you answered yes, how do you frame the warning?
