Lesson 21 - Tests and Reading
Comprehension Test
What should a client never leave you feeling? worse than when they arrived
What effect on a reading do ailments such as a cough or headache have? They distract the reader making it harder to concentrate and focus and hence easier to make mistakes or miss crucial details
At what point has a rune reader betrayed and abandoned their sacred role? When a client's desires predominate over the substance of a reading
Name a word you should avoid during a reading? There are lots of these, including suffering, pain, agony, death and poverty
What could you do that might cause a client to weep? Accidentally touching their inner vulnerabilities or mental scars
Why should you not accept gifts from clients? because it puts the relationship on an inappropriate basis. A reader needs a professional detachment.
What did we do to the detail of any readings reproduced on this course? We anonymised them and tweaked all non-essential details to disguise the client and reading
What should what you say to the client inspire them to do? To find their inner strengths and reserves to deal with the situation facing them
What should you not do during a reading unless medically qualified? Offer diagnoses of where or what medical problems a client has
What is a key requirement of the modern rune reader? Tolerance
Reading

Further Exercises
This lesson stressed the need for sensitivity towards the client. Enthusiastically giving the message that money will be coming to the client the reader fails to think about what they are saying. For there to be a bequest there must also be a death. While sometimes we receive inheritances from distant relatives for someone to be included a will normally suggests closeness. This is not therefore the best way to break the news that someone close may soon die. Even if the client does not pick this up at the time, a reader's words can stick in the mind and they may realize what is being suggested some time later.
This is a potential mine field and there are many possible dilemmas. Here are just two we came up with. You may well have found other ones which are equally valid-
A reader is tempted to string out a reading with unnecessary detail just to keep the client on the phone and so earn more money
A reader knows from the substance of a reading that the client has financial problems which are likely to worsen. They therefore cut the reading short, making themselves unpopular with the company they work for, and possibly not giving the client all the detail they need.

We have a shock for you. We are not going to provide an answer to this one. If you feel confident in your answer then you have grasped what this Unit was about and are ready to read for clients. If not, you need to continue to practice and develop your reading skills using the Reading Simulator and also re-read the ethics lecture. There is no definitive answer to this dilemma as there often are not in real life situations. Sometimes it is a case of choosing which situation is the least worst or which your conscience will allow you to live with. As a reader you are going to be faced with many morally difficult situations. You will have to make up your own mind and live with the consequences of your decision. If you are able to do that, then congratulations, you have completed the course and are ready to start as a rune reader.
You have completed this exercise and the course. If you got any of the comprehension answers wrong go back and look at the lesson again to work out why this happened before moving on. Thank you for taking the course and we hope it has helped you. There is further material for finishing students at the Student Site.
