Mailing Lists

Egroups.com (Now Yahoogroups)

Egroups has a wide variety of rune groups to suit all tastes and interests. A search of the site at www.yahoogroups.com will reveal further details but here are some of the available groups:

Runes-Divination

This group is one of the sponsors of the Rune School site. Hence the rather large plug for it here. The official page of the group sets out its aims

A group for those who primarily use the runes for divination. We respect the history of the runes but nonetheless welcome all paths and approaches.

This group is for those with an interest in the runes who use them, or would like to learn how to use them, for the purpose of divination. We respect the history of the runes but believe that what might have been appropriate for a Viking is not necessary still appropriate in the 21st century and just as the runes have been modified by each successive culture we believe we still have the right to do this today. We do not therefore take the harsh line towards things like the "Blank Rune" which some more hardline groups do.

Any who reads the runes, whether using stones, cards or dice, is welcomed here and entitled to have their views listened to. This is a place to share ideas and discuss the runes and the practice of divination as well as to share or request readings.

Runes

A general group which is quite large and active and is definitely worth joining. Many people on this group hold strong opinions and can get quite excitable which could be intimidating if it were not for the excellent moderators who strive to ensure the group remains true to its stated purpose and principles:

This is a basic Rune discussion/study list. Although, it is primarily, based on the 24 Elder Futhark/Futhork, there is open discussion of other traditional Futhark/Futhork Runes as well. For example, the 16 Younger Futhark Runes of Norse origin and 24 to 33 Old English Runes, Frisian Runes, Armenan Runes, Gothic, Old Norse, etc. This list is open to anyone who wants to learn more about Runes. Whether you are studying the Runes from a archaeological, anthropological, religious, literature, questing point of view, or all of the above, all paths are welcome and tolerance is expected as we share our similarities and learn from our differences.

Runeways

A new list but which has already had some interesting material posted to it.

Runeways is a group dedicated to the study and practice of Runelore and Runemagic, the ancient magical and divinatory practices of the Norse that center on the Runes of the Elder Futhark. Open discussion is always welcome, but politeness is a must.

Rune_Body_Postures

A new list this one is developing and is likely to remain small due to its specialist nature but looks promising

This is an e-group for those who use body postures in their work with the runes. Rune body postures, also known under the names of "Rune Yoga", "Rune Gymnastics", "Rune Stances" and "Stadhagalder", have been used in Germany from the early 20th century in conjunction with the runes. Modern rune writers Edred Thorsson and Jan Fries make use of them in their rune work.

RuneLore

Another new list of a scholarly nature

A discussion of runology and its applications. Discussion is based firmly in the Eddas, the Sagas, Folklore, Culture and History. This is NOT a "Runes 101" list.

Galdrabok

A more specialised group dealing with the study of rune magic which seems to be quite large and active.

Gáldrábok means Spell Book or Book of Magick in Icelandic.

This list is designed for those who have an understanding of the Runes and Runic Magick (or those who wish to learn). It is a place where Runesters can come together to discuss all aspects of the Runes, Lore and Runic magic.

All are welcome.

Wassail!

9thnight

Another quite active group which has been going a number of years and has some interesting material in their files and pages however a large amount of their traffic is off topic.

This list is for folks who wishing to learn and share information about RUNES.

Other Mailing Lists

Asatru - Rune

This mailing list is available from esoterism.com

Discussion of Astratu, Runes and the Odian path. This list exists to provide a moderated forum to discuss the above topics. Unlike similar lists the emphasis will be on Runes and mysticism as opposed to religion.
