Introduction to the Rune Course

This is a self-study course divided into twenty-one modules intended to be taken at the rate of a maximum of one per week. The teaching material is the same as for our INTRO-02 free course however there are four additional pieces of coursework which the student has to complete. There is also an end of course examination consisting of an essay paper, a multiple choice paper and a rune-reading interpretation paper.

The lectures which form the key part of each module are available on the web for all to see. However additional exercises and support material which is required to complete the modules is only accessible after registration. Registration is free and gives a student access to the student-only site as well as eligibility to request support via email when needed.

For this course to prove useful, the student must be focussed, dedicated and have sufficient free time to pursue the follow-up material which forms an essential part of the course. Such study requires energy and committment but need not be expensive, and this course has been designed around three books with all other (compulsary) reading material available on the web.

The intention is that this course should be a structured introduction to the runes for those with some conventional academic background and who seriously wish to purse study of the runes. It is aimed at those who are interested in the runes but are either complete beginners or those who have previously read about them in an unstructured way. It offers a comprehensive introduction which includes the underlying mythology and historical uses of the runes. The second half of the course is more specialised centring around preparing the student to undertake divinatory use of the runes.
