Commercial Activities Manager

Context

The School's website receives over 1000 visitors a week and has a growing reputation. However income generated from the site is currently very limited. We urgently need to cover our costs and so it has been agreed to create this post. Presently all other posts do not receive any remuneration however we are making an exception for this role because of the necessity of getting results fast.

A successful candidate will work closely with the Director. Whilst the School is keen to develop its (semi-)commercial activity, this should not be at the expense of irritating users of the website, slowing loading times or diminishing the School's academic credibility. Hence the Commercial Activities Manager will be required to work within these restrictions but will otherwise have a free hand.

Key Duties

To take primary responsibility for managing existing affiliate arrangements and for deciding upon the viability of new ones
To arrange, negotiate and manage new commercial arrangements with individuals and organisations
To advise the Webmaster on making best use of the School website for promotion and income generation
To exploit opportunities for income generation in accordance with the School's policies
To assist in the coding and maintenance of commercial areas of the School's website

Person Specification

Commitment to the Mission of the School
Drive, energy and initiative
A minimum of two years experience in either Sales or Marketing
Good diplomatic and communication skills
Numeracy skills and ability to keep accurate financial records
A knowledge of basic HTML coding or a willingness to learn this

Remuneration

The Commercial Activities Manager will receive up to 33% of income generated from new sources and a smaller percentage from that received from existing arrangements, on a performance related basis according to targets agreed with the Director.
